All dinosaurs are to be left at the door (and I mean you, Anderson). Mix, mingle, deduce which of the other guests are having affairs, discover dead bodies in the closet, hold someone hostage in the basement; as long as you're having fun, you're welcome here.

One patch would do what it's supposed to do, you abuse them.

Considering you just told me what you didn't want to tell me. [ He huffs slipping his phone back in his pocket. ] Why don't we just talk about the blue strangler then. [ he takes a slightly disgruntled sip of he drink ]

It's okay to go a day or two with out a case you know.

It's motor oil, John. [Stubbornly] Something to lubricate what's up here. [Points at the side of his head]

[That's the danger of having a bored-out-of-his skull Sherlock - he starts going through your things, such as your texts. Anything at all to alleviate the dullness. It was all fairly obvious about the date anyway (at least to him)]

For someone like you, maybe. [Sherlock nurses his drink, glancing over it at his flatmate, pursing his lips] Fine. So you have Saturday evening off, "unexpectedly". Morgue or latest victim's house?

It's not motor oil... it's junk, it might be cut with motor oil for all you know though. [ he gives Sherlock a cold stare.] It will do more harm to you mind then good.

[ yes his plans where "unexpectedly" canceled but sometimes John thought Sherlock scared his girlfriends way on purpose ]

[Sherlock only waves his hand at the idea of this hurting him long-term]

Nicotine patches are more or less harmless. It's not -- [He's about to cite either smoking or cocaine, his old favorites for focus, when he catches John giving him that John Watson, I'm the doctor here look. John's very good at it.]

Anyway, the house. Still have your cane? Bring it.

Yes... I still have the cane. [ he nods, he couldn't really bring himself to get rid of it, a reminder, a reminder of something, maybe how far he's come? He's not sure. He takes a long sip of his pint. ] What do we have so far on the case?

Excellent. [It's not surprising. John isn't a stranger to small sentiments like that and it could be a coping thing. The only thing that's surprising is John's kept it someplace where even Sherlock can't find it]

A blue smudge on each of the victims, severe trauma to the neck, no missing valuables. So far no relation between gender, age, or occupations.

So not really enough to get anywhere tangible. [ He nods. ] Unless you've already figured out... maybe they had place in common?

Nothing as of yet. [A bit stiffly. He doesn't need John of all people telling him what is and isn't tangible, even if he might be right. Just a little right.] The witnesses aren't reliable and you know how forensics is. Borderline incompetent on a good day.

[ John snorts and rolls his eyes fondly at Sherlocks thoughts on forensics. ]

Well then lets look at it like this, the victims might not have had anything physical in common, but what about social places, or schools, or a certain train they took, a doctor they saw... things like that.

[He has an excessive amount of thoughts on forensics. It's probably best not to get him started on them either, because he's as bad about it as some people are about the sports teams they hate -- you can't just look away]

I've already thought of all of that and no, so far nothing but the modus operandi. Believe me John, there's nothing you could say that I haven't thought of last night.

[It's almost a challenge though. Because maybe he's just a tiny bit fond of John's "odd", normal assumptions]

[ John takes another sip from his glass. ] Dating service or website? [ He says off handedly ] There has to be something all these people did that links them to killer, like the cabbie a couple of weeks back.

The cabbie practically wanted to be caught. [Why yes, Sherlock is having feelings about that. He never did admit to John the truth about the pills. He laces his fingers together in front of him on the counter] Anyway, I don't know the first thing about dating services. I suppose that's more your...area of expertise.

[Sherlock doesn't claim to understand his flatmate's bizarre fascination and downright need for that sort of human contact]

Hmm don't really use the services just meet people I like to spend time with and give it a go... Just trying to help Sherlock... things you might not think of as important but non vulcan's do. Maybe if you look into their dating history's? Or their internet history's? [ Maybe kind of knows about the pills he did see the Princess Bride with an ex girl friend once. ]

[The look Sherlock shoots John is one of those rare "you've somehow surprised me" ones. Given John's history from what he observed, he thought it perfectly logical to assume that John had more experience with dating sites than most. Certainly more than him.

Like he told John: it's always something he's off on, just a bit]

Non-Vulcans. [Repeats after John with a puzzled frown. Slightly blank look he gives him - clearly he hasn't seen any Star Trek, hardly a shocking, world-shaking surprise there. Sherlock gives a slight shake of his head] We'll need access to their computers.

We really should sit you down at some point and watch Star Trek Sherlock. [ He laughs a little. ] Think you would enjoy it.

[Sherlock gives one of those I doubt it grunts, although knowing John, it's possible he might be right. He's been known to be right from time to time]
